Burt Bacharach

Composer, musician and entertainer Burt Bacharach is a living legend in the world of music, and we are delighted that he will be performing live at Good Sam’s 2012 Rally in Louisville, Kentucky, June 21 through 24, 2012.

Bacharach began his musical career when he was in the U.S. Army stationed in Europe during the 1950s and served as the Army’s dance band manager. He started composing for such artists as Marty Robbins and Perry Como and has never stopped. During the 1960s, Bacharach wrote and produced 20 Top 40 hits just for Dionne Warwick alone, including “Anyone Who Had a Heart,” “Walk On By,” “I Say a Little Prayer,” “Do You Know the Way to San Jose,” “This Girl’s in Love With You” and “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again.”

With his lyric writing partner, Hal David, Bacharach was responsible for hits with other performers, including Jackie DeShannon (“What the World Needs Now”), the Fifth Dimension (“One Less Bell to Answer”), Manfred Mann (“My Little Red Book”), Bobby Vinton (“Blue on Blue”), Herb Alpert (“This Guy’s in Love With You”), Tom Jones (“Promise Her Anything,” “What’s New, Pussycat?”), Jack Jones (“Wives and Lovers”), Dusty Springfield (“The Look of Love”) and B.J. Thomas (“Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head”). Other performers covered Bacharach’s compositions to chart-topping effect, including the Walker Brothers (whose version of “Make It Easy on Yourself” hit No. 16 in 1965), the Carpenters (whose version of “[They Long to Be] Close to You” hit No. 1 in 1970) and Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66 (whose version of “The Look of Love” hit No. 4 in 1968).

Today, Bacharach is still performing, and the Kentucky Expo Center’s Freedom Hall will provide excellent acoustics and staging for his show. We know Bacharach’s performance of his long list of hit songs will dazzle Rally guests at the Good Sam Louisville Rally.
