The RV Plus card to be used at Pilot Centers is a joke. Pilot charges 15 to 20 cents more on a gal of diesel to begin with but then the charge card price is even another 6 cents higher in some places. It will only be used in case of emergencies. Please look into other companies that can really help RV’ers especially now with the cost up so high. I use my Good Sam Visa all the time with Barclay. At lease here I can get gift cards for Camping World or cash back. RV Plus gives Good Sam’s name a bad rep.
Good Sam says: We chose to partner with Pilot Flying J because of their ability to cater specifically to the RVer with dump stations, diesel fuel additives, RV lanes, great food options, good interstate access, and available propane. They are also in the process of aggressively expanding their network of locations to better serve our members and are generally competitive in their markets.
Many factors can impact the current fuel prices in an area, like local taxes, proximity to the interstate and competitiveness in the market. Pilot Flying J always strives to be as competitive as possible in an ever-changing fuel market. They welcome your feedback regarding fuel prices so that they can investigate these matters on a case by case basis. I have forward your comments on to Pilot Flying J.
In response to Pat’s post about the RV Plus card. We use this card frequently. We always watch for the best price regardless of whether it is a Pilot or another station but the one thing I want to point out to Pat. The price you pay with the RV Plus card is off the CASH price not the credit card price. You are not penalized for using this credit card. If you are a lifetime member of Good Sam you get 8 cents off diesel which is even better.
I also use the Barclay card for our stays in parks but I have found I need to watch my reward points because they don’t always award three times the points for RV parks. Every card has it’s problems. You need to vigilant Nd talk with customer service or Good Sam with your concerns.
We have found the RV Plus card a tremendous value. The Flying J’s in our area are typically one of the lowest priced fuel stations, often lower than all of them. Then adding the discount, it’s a great deal.
We have used the RV Plus card and our Barclays Credit Card for a long time. We always get the cash price at Flying J plus the discount for the RV card.
If you find that you are not getiing the 3 times the points for a campground, if you look at the detail for the charge you will find that the merchant category does not show it as a campground.
I call Good Sam Visa when the statement closes and give them the items which I have not gotten the correct points for and they correct it. I also try to call the campground to see if they can change their category for next time we camp there.
