Making Memories Last
When you’ve packed up your rig and summer gear until next year, being able to reflect on a productive, memory-filled summer is a cherished activity for anyone, no matter the time of year. Here are a few ideas on how you can preserve your camping memories for years to come.
Taking photos of your camping trips or Chapter events and compiling them into a scrapbook can be a fun activity for some and a daunting activity for others. Thankfully, technology is now available to simplify this process. A number of photo websites, such as www.shutterfly.com, offer print services that print digital photos and ship them directly to your house as prints or even as a customizable photo album. Additionally, these online websites offer the option for you to customize and share your favorite photos with Chapter members and other loved ones for the holidays with gifts such as personalized photo mugs, ornaments, fleece blankets and canvas prints to name a few.
If you choose to go the more traditional route by making a handmade scrapbook, prepare to spend a lot of hours with this project. The result, however, will be well worth your time spent on this project, as in the end, you’ll possess an archive of events that can be cherished for many years to come. This can even become a yearly tradition of your local Chapter, chronicling your Chapter events each year and reveling in the memories at your local gatherings. The first step in this process is to stock up on scrapbooking supplies. Craft stores such as Crafts Direct, Archivers and Michaels have extensive scrapbooking departments and experienced staff ready to answer any and all of your questions, no matter if you’re the novice scrapbooker or an expert. So whether you prefer a preassembled photo album or making your own, the stories behind your photos and the memories they evoke are the highlights when recalling your RV vacation experiences.
Another way to preserve memories is to use a digital photo frame. The frame is sized like an ordinary picture frame but is electronic and scrolls through a variety of preloaded photos. So when you can’t choose your favorite vacation photo or family member to highlight in your regular picture frames, head to an electronics store like Best Buy and get your hands on a digital photo frame. Showing off the kids, grandkids or family pet has never been easier.
Printed photos can also make lovely wall collages. Whether you choose to create a small wall collage using framed photos or an oversized framed poster board with several photos within, displaying at least five to 10 photos (or more) can be a great addition to the room’s décor as well as displaying favorite memories from the past trip. And the best part? You can change the photos out every year to highlight that year’s RV memories.
Another option to share your RV travels for the tech-savvy is to create an account online with websites like www.snapfish.com. Websites such as this allow you to create online photo albums protected with a password for friends, family or your Chapters members to check out what you were up to on your latest vacation. These websites hold several photo albums with virtually unlimited space for each account, which allows you to store as many photos as you take.
