A Maryland chapter raises money for Sandy victims in New Jersey

After Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc on the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states last fall, Good Sam chapters were quick to lend a helping hand. Case in point: Maryland’s Oriole Ramblers rescheduled activities at their 40th anniversary celebration to host a fundraising 50-50 raffle, with proceeds going to help hurricane victims on the hard-hit Jersey shore.

The Oriole Ramblers had planned November’s 40th anniversary get-together all year, reserving the pavilion and adjacent campsites at Lancaster, Pennsylvania’s Old Mill Stream Campground. Member families traveled to the campout in 11 rigs, along with several invited guests. Together, they raised $200 to donate to a relief fund for their New Jersey neighbors.

Then it was time to celebrate the Oriole Ramblers’ four decades of fun and fellowship by slicing into a cake iced with the chapter’s namesake bird. Members explored Pennsylvania Dutch Country and enjoyed each other’s company, much the same way the chapter’s founders did back in 1972.

To learn about all 22 of Maryland’s neighborly Good Sam chapters, visit mdgoodsam.org. Many of them will be rolling into the Delaware State Fairgrounds, June 20 through 24, for five days and four nights of games, seminars, vendor displays and entertainment at the Mid-Atlantic Samboree. Go to midatlanticsamboree.com to read more about June’s big event, hosted by the Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and Virginia Good Sam organizations.

Like Maryland’s Oriole Ramblers, you can make friends and make a difference in your corner of the world as a member of a Good Sam chapter. Find one near you at GoodSamClub.com/chapters.
