Who needs the Atlantic when you can enjoy an inland ocean in the heart of the Sunshine State? Florida’s Lake Okeechobee RV Resort in Pahokee sits along one mile of the famous lake’s shoreline and, amazingly, all 116 spaces overlook the shores of this expansive body of water. Guests can literally cast a line from their space and catch their dinner just a few paces from their doorstep.
The resort provides guests with lost of opportunities to explore Lake Okeechobee. Covering 730 square miles, the “Big O” is the largest freshwater lake in Florida and the seventh largest freshwater lake in the United States. Teeming with largemouth bass, crappie and bluegill, the lake is ideal for anglers. Its sheer vastness makes it a playground for boaters in search of a solitary fishing spot without disturbance. You can also follow one of the resort’s fishing guides for insights into the best places to haul in the Big One.
Boats can dock in one of the 100 slips in the resort’s marina, and a dock master building, supply store and ample fuel supplies ensure that watercraft have everything they need. A 400-foot fishing pier accommodates anglers who prefer to stay close to shore, and the 1,000-foot West Sunset pier helps guests catch a view. Bring binoculars, because the lake has visibility of up to 61 miles.
The resort frequently hosts powerboat competitions and bass fishing tournaments. The wildlife on the shore and on the water is unparalleled, making it a nice setting for nature lovers setting out on a cruise of discovery. Boat rentals are available, and campers bringing their own boats qualify for a 50-percent discount on slips in the Marina and free use of the boat ramps.
Landlubbers can find a different kind of diversion at the 8,000 square-foot Tiki Bar and Restaurant. Reserve the Lounge Reception and Conference Facility for an unforgettable group event, or simply lounge around the 50-foot pool and sunbathing deck.
Each site has its own barbecue and table, and Internet is available at the site or from a Wi-Fi hot spot. Sites have 30/50-amp power.
